The Shasta County District Attorney’s Office reported 17 real-estate fraud complaints during the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2026, including four investigations and four criminal cases filed, according to the FY 2025/2026 Real Estate Fraud Report.
The report says complainants reported aggregate losses of approximately $204,000. It also lists five convictions and $250,735.82 in restitution ordered to victims.
The report does not identify the defendants, case numbers or filing and disposition dates. It also does not explain whether the convictions came from cases filed in earlier fiscal years or whether one case resulted in multiple convictions. The report’s loss figure is described as aggregate money lost by complainants, but does not specify whether the amount was alleged, charged, proven, recovered or calculated another way.
The Board of Supervisors is scheduled to receive the annual Real Estate Fraud Investigation Unit report Oct. 13, 2026. The Board staff report says the item fulfills the annual review required by Government Code section 27388(d), which calls for the Board to review the District Attorney’s effectiveness in deterring, investigating and prosecuting real-estate fraud. Receiving the report is a staff recommendation and had not yet been approved in the provided meeting materials.
The staff report puts fiscal 2025-26 program expenditures at about $55,554 and says the recommendation would have no additional General Fund impact. A related financial report lists $55,553.88 in expenditures and $32,850.90 in real-estate-fraud revenue. The documents do not explain the $22,702.98 difference between those figures or identify another funding source.
The District Attorney’s report also says the office delivered three community fraud presentations and made appearances on KCNR and KQMS to discuss real-estate scams and emerging fraud trends.
