Shasta County supervisors adopted Resolution No. 2026-054 to continue the county’s local emergency for damage tied to the December 2025 winter storms.
According to the resolution, the storms damaged county roadways and cleanup and repairs are still underway. The board had previously ratified the original emergency proclamation on Dec. 29, 2025, after the county’s director of emergency services first proclaimed a local emergency on Dec. 22, 2025.
The resolution also notes that Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency on Dec. 24, 2025, covering Shasta County and other counties affected by atmospheric rivers beginning around Dec. 23, 2025. It further references a Jan. 5, 2026, letter from Sheriff Michael L. Johnson seeking state and/or federal help, including California Disaster Assistance Act funding and Small Business Administration assistance.
By continuing the emergency, the board kept emergency powers and duties in place under state law, county code and the Shasta Operational Area Emergency Operations Plan. The resolution says the board will review the need to continue the emergency at least every 60 days until it is formally terminated and directs that a copy be sent to the Secretary of the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services.
The resolution was adopted with all listed supervisors voting aye, according to the document.
