The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors is scheduled to consider two 45-day land-use moratoria at its Oct. 6 meeting, including a proposed pause on new data-center applications and permits in unincorporated Humboldt County.
The final agenda says the proposed urgency ordinance would prohibit accepting applications for, and issuing permits, licenses or entitlements for, data centers in the county’s unincorporated areas. The item requires approval by four-fifths of the board.
A second proposed urgency ordinance would establish a 45-day moratorium on accepting applications for, and issuing permits for, the removal of large redwood trees in unincorporated areas outside Timberland Production and Agricultural Exclusive Zone areas. That item also requires a four-fifths vote, according to the agenda.
The ordinances are listed under departmental reports from the Planning and Building Department. The agenda directs staff to return with a possible extension before either moratorium expires and to report on measures taken to address the conditions that led to the proposals.
The agenda is a meeting notice and does not establish whether either ordinance was adopted. The board’s vote tallies, any final ordinance language, staff rationale and public testimony would need to be confirmed through the meeting record and related staff materials.
