The Humboldt County Planning Commission’s June 18 agenda includes a special permit request from Robert Scarlett to remove a hazardous old-growth redwood in the lower Redway Q Zone area near Redway.
According to the Planning Commission agenda, staff describes the tree as about 118 inches in diameter and 252 feet tall, with rot, a large cut at the base and a compromised root system. The agenda says staff is recommending approval, along with CEQA exemption findings under state guidelines.
The agenda excerpt does not show the commission’s final action or any conditions that may have been added. It also lists supporting attachments, including an arborist report, a nesting bird survey, Cal Fire permit materials and referral comments, but the excerpt does not provide the contents of those documents.
