The Eureka City Council did not settle Recology Humboldt County’s proposed solid-waste rate increase at its July 21 meeting.
Staff had asked the council to approve a not-to-exceed 8.52% increase, according to the meeting agenda. But the council split 2-2 on the initial motion, then rescinded that vote and continued the public hearing to the next regular meeting, according to the meeting summary from the July 21 council session.
The delay leaves the rate proposal unresolved for Eureka customers and keeps in play a request tied to higher disposal, recycling-processing, insurance and bad-debt costs discussed during the hearing, according to the meeting summary. The record available so far does not identify how individual council members voted, and it does not show whether staff will revise the proposal before the hearing resumes.
The council later took up other agenda items, including the city’s fiscal year 2026-27 fee schedule update, but the Recology rate question remained open at the end of the hearing.
